Marketing in the food sector is a fantastic, fast paced and challenging occupation. As marketing recruitment specialists to the industry, we took a look at what’s been happening in 2016.
Vacancies across the marketing function have increased by 25% in 2016 compared to last year with Product Managers and Channel Managers in high demand. Recruitment activity has been seen across both large and smaller companies in the South East.
Competition for marketing roles in the food sector is significantly fiercer than on average across the marketing disciplines, with an average of 33 applications per vacancy – an increase of 54% on marketing as a whole.
The competition amongst applicants allows employers to be selective and ensure that the select the best candidate with the skills required for the role. Consequently, key desirable factors in candidates include a background in food, giving them a head start and intrinsic understanding of how the sector operates. The desire for candidates with marketing qualifications also features more highly than in other sectors.
